20 Awesome Jobs You Can Do from Anywhere in the World

20 jobs you can do from anywhere in the wolrld - F*ckity bye - funny travel blog

One of the worst aspects of working is showing up to work.

Having to interface with the same annoying people. Needing to deal with those “regular customers” who are regularly obnoxious... It’s enough to make you want to throw all of your belongings in a sack and set up shop under a freeway.

Before you start picking out a hobo camp though, my recommendation is to parooze this list of jobs you can do from anywhere.

If you find one you like, you could make all of the money you've ever wanted without ever needing to show up anywhere again!

1. Writer

If you’ve got a laptop and an internet connection you can make a killing writing!

Blog posts, sales copy, reviews, novels... The possibilities are literally endless!

Regular readers of this blog are probably tired of hearing me say this but freelance writing was my “jobs you can do from anywhere" choice and I now make $4000.00+ per month writing for people part-time.

If you’re curious to learn more about how you can start making a career out of your knack for writing, subscribe to my mailing list below and I’ll share with you an infographic that will help you get started!

2. Consultant

When I was first trying to think of ways to make money without being tethered down to a job site, people would tell me, "Ryan, you're pretty good at website stuff and have a degree in multimedia, I think a ton of companies would be interested in bringing you on as a consultant."

I'd then nod my head, thank them for the compliment and ask myself, "WTF is a consultant?".

As it turns out, being a consultant just means being a giver of advice! Basically, if you know how to do something well, you can advise people on how they can do it.

You can consult on just about anything. Here are some quick consulting ideas:

  • Social media
  • Building referral systems
  • Running a dog grooming business
  • Talking to boys/girls
  • Personal style
  • Retail loss prevention
  • Television scheduling
  • Home design
  • Confidence
  • etc. etc. etc.

Bottom line, if you have a skill you can teach people online (or in person if you don't mind being tied down to an area), start marketing your services and see if people will pay for your coaching!

3. Teacher

Adventurers love being teachers.

Why?

Because standard teaching gigs guarantee you tons of vacation time each year (winter break, spring break, summer break). If you’re looking for more freedom than that, try teaching internationally or online.

Tons of people teach at international schools in whatever country they’re hankering to explore or sell courses direct to consumer on platforms like Teachable. There’s no reason why you can’t do the same!

4. Web Developer

There are 1.9 billion websites online right now and more are getting created by businesses everyday. If you’re a WordPress guru and/or have a little coding knowledge, consider offering your web building services to businesses looking to get a new website done or that want to refresh their existing one.

Web developers are in high demand making this a popular jobs you can do from anywhere choice.

If you fancy being a web developer but lack the skills, I highly recommend popping over to Lynda.com to learn everything you need to become a pro!

5. Blogger

I make money blogging and I’m an idiot. That means, with your superior brain power, you can do way better than me and make tons writing about the stuff you’re most interested in online.

To get started creating your blog, read this introductory article I wrote!

6. Graphic Designer/Artist

I always wished I could draw... Unfortunately, my hands are cursed and anything I attempt to create with them only serves to scare small children. That’s why I hire graphic designers/artists to do any complex illustration work I need done.

If you’re a talented designer who has a great eye for art, you could be the next person people like me pay to do the work we wish we could do ourselves!

Graphic designers tend to do well selling their services through freelancing platforms UpWork and Fiverr so try building up a following on their to see how you like drawing professionally. Youlandlord could also try and garner a following through social media (Twitter and Instagram are great platforms for artists) and then direct your social media followers to you website where you can accept commissions and even donations via Patreon.

7. Landlord

This jobs you can do from anywhere suggestion takes a little bit of cash upfront. Either that or a rich grandma who’s willing to leave for property.

In either case, if you own a house you can rent out, you can make off like a bandit.

Some people rent out their properties as short term rentals through sites like Airbnb while others look for long term renters and bring on a property manager to deal with the day to day tasks involved with housing tenants.

In theory, you could forgo a property manager and deal with all the work that goes into renting out a home on your own. That could quickly turn into a stressful, full-time job though.

The choice is yours!

8. Customer Service Rep

When you call a company’s customer service line, a lot of times the person on the other end isn’t some guy or gal working in a corporate building in some big city... It's usually a person like you that's working from home (or anywhere else with an internet connection) who's pretending to work in a corporate building in some big city.

If you don’t mind being patient with customers who are occasionally rude, a career in remote-based customer service could be a great jobs you can do from anywhere choice. All you'll need is a headset and a solid internet connection.

Apple is one of the most famous companies that hire remote-based customer service agents but other companies like American Express also have frequent openings.

9. Digital Marketing Ace

As more and more people begin to do their shopping online, more and more companies are investing heavily in digital marketing services.

If you know a thing or two about Google AdWords, Facebook ads, and search engines optimization you could easily be pulling 6-figures managing a company's (or multiple company’s) online marketing needs.

Even if you're not interested in being a professional marketer, knowing about digital marketing is a great skill to have since it can help you with any number of jobs you can do from anywhere you might be interested in. If you want to learn digital marketing, start your education by taking in everything you can about SEO. Then, move onto getting educated on Google AdWords and Facebook ads.

10. Virtual Assistant

A ton of successful business owners get overwhelmed by all of the things they have to do to stay successful.

Sending emails, pitching clients, scheduling meetings, doing data entry work, etc. etc. etc.

In a traditional corporate setting, these people would hire an assistant or secretary to manage those tasks on their behalf. Today, people look to save money by being virtual assistants.

Virtual assistants do everything a traditional assistant would do except they work 100% online.

If you’re an organized person who takes direction well, you can manage 1 or 2 client’s assistant tasks and make tens of thousands of dollars per year! If you're feeling super ambitious, you can take on work loads from 3+ clients simultaneously and get rich!

To become a virtual assistant, you can start marketing your services on freelancing platforms (UpWork, Fiverr, etc.) and/or build your own website and start cold emailing companies asking if they'd like to bring you on.

11. Interior Designer

I believe that with the right eye for design, you can turn any space into something outstanding!

Finding the potential in spaces/homes and making recommendations on what people should do to realize that potential is what interior designers do.

I actually worked with a virtual-based interior designer recently! They had me take pictures of the room I wanted advice on and they created beautiful 3D renderings of their vision for the space. Then then let me know where I could buy the furniture they used in their rendering.

Do you think you could do the same thing?

If you think you could, I'd recommend (once again) getting some traction on popular freelancing platforms and taking it from there. I hired my recent interior designer through Fiverr.

12. Subtitler/Transcriptionist

All of those subtitles you see on movies, Netflix shows, and on many YouTube videos are hand typed by someone. That comes as a shock to a lot of people who assume that they're all just auto generated!

Does watching video content and on writing subtitles sound like fun to you? What about listening to business meetings and transcribing what you hear into a word document?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, becoming a subtitler or transcriptionist is a jobs you can do from anywhere option you should be considering.

Subtitlers listen to audio from media (Netflix shows, YouTube videos, movies, etc.) and type what they're hearing into subtitle tracks, typically using proprietary software provided by the company you work for.

Transcriptionists do roughly the same thing except they tend to type audio they hear into Word docs which originate from corporate meetings or voice memos.

Years ago I tried to get a job doing subtitle work with a company. Turned out the work was really hard and paid pretty poorly.

For that reason, I'd only recommend looking for opportunities in these fields if you're planning going on extended adventures in cheap, third world countries.

If you want to make big bucks, there are positions out there for "translator transcriptionists"! Translator transcriptionists take voice recordings or meeting recordings and transcribe them from language to language.

Some companies will pay a dollar per transcribed word or more for these services!

13. Mobile App/Game Developer

Application and game developers may be the most in-demand jobs you can do from anywhere options today!

You’ll need a coding background to be successful here but don’t let that discourage you if you don’t know HTML from C+. There are great, free resources out there like the ones offered through Code Academy and Lynda which offer awesome lessons on just about anything you can think of.

Learning code is like learning any language. It takes commitment.

If you're willing to grind through the process though, you could start creating games and selling them online in as little as a few months. You could also land a remote-based full-time job coding and make close to six figures writing software from a beach in Mexico (have an extra Pina Colada for me!).

14. Event Planner

From parties to weddings, a ton of people hire planners to organize whatever event they have going on.

If you’re awesome at organizing events, getting the best prices on things, and don’t mind working with the occasionally hysterical client, planning people’s shindigs could be the perfect jobs you can do from anywhere option!

You could either travel to meet with your clients or you could offer your event planning services 100% through the internet.

I always feel like I could have been an event planner (organizing DIY, ultra-affordable parties is one of my biggest passions) so if you have those same ambitions, get out there and start selling your services!

15. Video Editor

People are watching more video than ever online which means that businesses are spending millions of dollar per year to get awesome video content made that pumps up their brand. If you can get good at using video editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, you can be the person who cuts together thousands of videos for companies per year making an absolute killing from anywhere in the world!

If you don't have any video editing experience, I recommend learning Adobe Premiere Pro through (I'm going to sound like a broken record right now) Lynda.com which offers outstanding tutorials that will make you a pro, fast. When you're ready, you can find editing jobs on freelancing platforms or you can score part-time or full-time remote-based work through traditional online job boards.

16. Actor

It's hard enough to be a working Actor if you live in New York or LA. It can be even harder if you're an actor who's wanting to work remotely.

Still, it's 100% possible!

When I worked in Television and was helping cut together promos for cartoons, we had a voice actor we worked with who made a 6-figure salary recording lines for us from his home thousands of miles away. We'd just call him on the phone and direct his performance and he'd send us the final product.

The guy was also legally blind!

If that dude could make acting his jobs you can do from anywhere choice, so can you.

17. Travel Agent

People love to travel but hate planning their trips. If you're a card-carrying organizer who is awesome at putting together unforgettable itineraries at awesome prices, people will pay you to do that for them!

I've planned a ton of trips for friends and family members and while I've never charged for my services, I certainly could. You could do the same!

To get started with this jobs you can do from anywhere option, I'd recommend learning how to plan trips and travel by taking my free course on how to do exactly that!

18. Animator

Have you seen companies share animated videos on social media? Have you seen full on animated commercials on network television?

Some chick/dude makes those commercials and a ton of them work on a freelance basis from home.

I have friends who are art/animation majors that make a living cutting together silly animated commercials. Most of them work through agencies that they applied for jobs at but some work 100% for themselves and pick up clients through their website and on job boards.

19. Therapist

If you have a degree in psychology, you don't have to work out of some stuffy office to see patients and make a living. You could work online by conducting sessions over video, email, and even through text.

Internet-based therapy services are becoming increasingly popular and help bring down skyrocketing healthcare costs. With insurance providers covering internet therapy more often, this profession is a viable jobs you can do from anywhere option.

If you don't want to get an advanced degree in psychology but like the idea of listening to people and giving advice online, you could offer your therapy services as a "counselor" instead of as a therapist.

You'll get paid less but will be able to open up shop online faster.

For positions working as an internet-based physiologist, check out popular platforms like TalkSpace. You can also work as a therapist who determines whether or not people qualify for emotional support animals by working with companies like CertaPet.

20. eCommerce Mogul

Coming in the final slot on this jobs you can do from anywhere list is being an "eCommerce mogul".

Saying you're an eCommerce mogul is a really fancy way of saying that you successfully sell stuff online. The stuff you sell could be products you create, products you source from flea markets, discount stores, yard sales, manufacturers abroad, and just about anywhere else.

Once you have inventory, you can start selling it on popular platforms like Amazon, eBay, and of course through your own website.

Selling things online can have a little bit of an investment barrier given that acquiring products to sell costs money. That being said, if you source the right inventory at the right prices, it doesn't have to cost you too much to get your business off the ground.

I tried my hand at being an eCommerce mogul in college buy buying iPods on Craigslist at low prices then selling them for a profile on Amazon. I did it part time and made about $400.00 a month which helped pay for a portion of my travels through South East Asia!
